Richard continues to write his monthly columns of guitar instruction for Guitar World Magazine as well as filming videos connected to the columns, many of which have found their way to YouTube as well as Comcast on-demand television. Richard also continues to see private students in New York for the study of the guitar and esoteric music theory, and is available to produce, engineer, and mix outside projects depending upon scheduling. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- May 2008: Richard Lloyd will again be appearing on the Joey Reynolds radio show this Wednesday, May 14. This is a nationally syndicated radio show. Richard in addition to talking to Joey about sundry subjects far and wide, will also likely play a track or two from his upcoming CD of Jimi Hendrix covers to be entitled "The Jamie Neverts Story- the songs of Jimi Hendrix" and which is dedicated to the memories of both Jimi and Velvert Turner, Jimi's only recognized guitar student and protege, who was Richard's best friend in the late 1960s. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- May 2008: Richard Lloyd and the SufiMonkeys will be appearing Monday, May 19, at the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash which is held at Irving Plaza. We will be doing a 20 minute set in honor of Joey and to benefit cancer research, as Joey died of cancer and his brother Mickey has been hosting these events for several years, all profits to go to charity. In past years they have sold out quickly. It's a good cause -- hope to see you there. Richard Lloyd and the SufiMonkeys will also be at the Knitting Factory on Monday, June 23. This is a headlining event where we will be playing an extensive set -- no chanting and no demands will be made upon the audience. I've learned my lesson. Just a full set of RadiantMonkey songs along with previews of the Jimi Hendrix covers from my next album, "The Jamie Neverts Story -- the songs of Jimi Hendrix." We also may pull a few chestnuts out of my back catalogue. It's anybody's guess. Please visit www.RadiantMonkey.com to view the latest chapter in the RadiantMonkey philosophy, entitled: "How the Sun Works". More chapters will follow in due time, but for those of you who are interested in a more detailed exposition of my teaching and philosophies, you may write me at Richard@richardlloyd.com and I will send you the URL of my secret blog. Richard continues to teach guitar students privately in New York as well as writing his monthly column for Guitar World magazine, which is entitled The Alchemical Guitarist. Each of the monthly columns comes with a CD-ROM with video instruction included. Many of these have made their way to youtube, and interested guitarists can go to youtube and type in my name in the search window and find quite a few of these video lessons. Even though they are tied to information contained in the columns which are only found in the magazine, they might prove to be of benefit to those who are interested in expanding their understanding of the guitar and musical law. It is called The Radiant Monkey, and it is being released on Parasol Records in the United States and Canada, and on Evangeline Records in England and in Europe. I feel by far that it is the best record I have ever made short of being involved in the making of Marquee Moon. I hope you will check it out by buying a copy. In America, street date for the release is October 30, but the record can be ordered now through mail-order or through iTunes, and you can audition several songs from the new record as well as download a free copy of the song Monkey by visiting this Parasol webpage. The website dedicated to the album - radiantmonkey.com - is now open and here yuou can read The Radiant Monkey Philosophy. In England and in Europe the release date is October 2. Please visit the Evangheline website for more information about the European release. The October issue of Spin Magazine will have the punk class of 1977 as its theme, and I was one of the participants, along with Debbie Harry and Chris Stein of Blondie, Tommy Ramone of the Ramones, Alan Vega of Suicide, and Dick Manitoba and Andy Shernoff of the Dictators. Please look for it. My guitar instruction columns continue in Guitar World Magazine through the end of the year, and the last two columns will focus on my new record. I hope you will also check out these magazines. I continue to take private students in New York and would be happy to hear from any guitarist wishing to study with me. You can write me at Lloyd206@aol.com. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- After the possible Summer stage show in New York City on June 16, which is to be announced by the city of New York on May 15, Richard Lloyd will, after 34 years, be amicably severing all ties with the band Television, in order that he may concentrate his magnetic force and supernatural energies upon his own career in support of his forthcoming record, due out in the fall. This new record directly competes with Marquee Moon, Axis: Bold as Love, The Doors, Patti Smith's Horses, Bob Marley's Natty Dread, Neil Young's Harvest, or any other record you can name, as one of the greatest records ever made in the history of rock 'n roll. That being so, Richard needs to concentrate all of his energies to support it and its subsidiary philosophies. To the fans of Television, from the very first show at the townhouse Theatre on March 4, 1974 till the hopeful last show here in New York at the Summer stage -- which by the way, is a free show, thank you for your support over these many years. I hope to see you follow both my own and the other members of the band in their own solo efforts for many more years to come. Thank you, Sincerely yours, Richard Lloyd |
